Frequently Asked Questions

What is Impeachment?
Impeachment is a legal process, its  exercise guaranteed by the First Amendment of the Constitution. Its purpose is to
check and try
grievances which have become a matter of widespread public perception and which, therefore, threaten
the integrity, stability, and capacity of government.
Impeachment is not removal from office; it is the trial itself. The vote
taken following impeachment might well call for removal from office, but it might also find no fault in the accused.
Between those two extremes impeachment might verify misdemeanors requiring censure and correction without removal
from office. The "success" of impeachment lies, therefore, in the thoroughness of its oversight and the effectiveness and
judiciousness of its correction.

Yet impeachment is not to be used frivolously to address small personal offenses, or to manipulate political opinion. It is
properly pursued only when there is substantial evidence of gross malfeasance which undermines fidelity to
constitutional principle and threatens the capacity of government to do its work.

Is my contribution tax deductible?
No
. Our tax-exempt status under IRS code 527 does not allow it.

What is the Real Economy Group?
It is the umbrella agency which has agreed to give our project its tax-exempt status. Though it endorses our project, the
organization of this petition is otherwise completely independent. The Real Economy Group (REG) was formed in the late
summer of 2004, to advocate for key issues that affect the economic status of real Americans, issues that many refer to
as "kitchen table" issues (those that working American families might discuss over the kitchen table--issues like health
care, jobs and wages, public schools, etc.).  Since many of these issues are directly and negatively affected by the
spending on the Iraq War rather than needs at home, the REG has taken strong positions against the continuation of
the Iraq occupation.  And given that the Bush/Cheney Administration did not tell the truth in getting the country into the
war, and has continued to insist that it will keep the war going on throughout the rest of its time in office, the issue of
impeachment has also been a serious focus of REG.
